My Story

With having grown up witnessing quilting in my life, I have decided to pursue quilting on a modern level.  As a child, I sat around many quilting bees my grandmother had at her home with many community ladies.  Also, over the years I have seen my mother and her love of quilting grow into being a masterful quilter.  I learned there are many hours in quilts and lots of love when making them. When I was younger, people would ask me if I was going to be a quilter like my mom.  I would look at them and shake my head “no”. “My mom is more of a creative, artistic, fine arts person, and I am more of a “mathematical art designer”.

I graduated from Meredith College with an art degree focusing on a concentration in Graphic Design.  After jobs in the graphic design field and owning my own sign and awards business, I took a break to focus on family. During that time, my mom, dad, and I were talking about the interest in quilt squares and the beautiful colors they bring. In knowing many substrates of the sign business, my mind started to run with what could be done to take traditional fabric quilting to a modern quilt square.

In 2021 while visiting Hatteras Island in the North Carolina Outer Banks, I came upon a shop focusing on old stain glass windows that could be hung as pieces of art in windows, over counter tops, from ceilings, etc.  While on a tour of their home, it was mentioned to me “instead of curtains or blinds, the owner decided these create window privacy but with such beautiful colors that let the light shine through.”

While the quilt discussion was going on with my parents, the story of the stain glass windows came to mind.  Why not create quilt pieces to hang in windows? It was then my journey began.

I have since spent many days on Hatteras Island pursuing my new journey. While pursuing my new path, I remembered my love of photography while I was in college.  Having such beautiful scenery made by God, I also began the process of creating window pieces of His magnificent work.  From the glorious sunsets and sunrises to the vast waters of the ocean, all the grains of sand, the wildlife, the stars in the dark sky…. His beauty speaks to me.  From the hymns I think about during the sunrises and sunsets, to his amazing creations.... it touches my soul…….  God is good!

My small creation doesn’t compare to His masterpieces, but I do hope it brings you joy, peace, smiles and thoughts of Him.

Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest.

With the way of the world in these busy times, don’t forget to pause, take a moment, breathe and smile.

May God bless you.
